Info

Mincers is the next in a series of ten window text commissions by artists, writers, and designers created during the 2021 lockdowns. Ten writers who participated in Meadhbh McNutt's Should artists write? workshops were invited to create one page of text – a completely open brief. The texts range from dense, deeply personal accounts to bold slogans, each capturing the different thoughts and feelings of the author. The texts have been designed by different artists and designers and printed in a risograph edition by Derry Print Workshop.

The texts are visible from CCA's windows, each for two weeks, as well as visible online here and distributed across our region. All ten will be available later in the year as a bundle edition available to buy from CCA's shop as a fundraiser.

About the author & designer:

Tara McGinn is a visual artist and writer based between Wexford and Belfast in Ireland. She is currently a Catalyst Arts Co-Director focusing on digital publishing and broadcasting for the dissemination of contemporary practice and new media. She is a studio holder at Flax Studios Emerging Artist Hub in Belfast and has been selected for the 2022–23 PS2 Freelands Programme. Recent exhibitions include her solo show at Platform Arts, Belfast.

Tara's practice examines the relationships and distances that exist within the strata of language, how it operates in multiple forms and the metaphysical nature of its impact on visual culture. Her current work examines the doctrine of family and home where female roles pivot and dissolve in memorabilia and heirlooms, in particular; objects associated with domestic work and caretaking.
