Info

On Friday 9 September, we're welcoming artist Blaine O'Donnell to take over CCA's Instagram as part of our ongoing programme CCA Introducing.

During the takeover, Blaine will expand on the research, processes and working methods that inform his work, rooted in questions that emerge when something becomes something else.

As part of the takeover, Blaine will be displaying work in CCA's Office window. This work can be viewed by the public during the 9 September.

Blaine was recommended to CCA Introducing by artist Frank Wasser, who took part in URGENCIES (2021) at CCA.

Blaine O’Donnell is an artist working primarily in sculpture.

Taking an experimental approach to the materials and debris of photography, architecture and geology, he investigates the art object as a starting point for tracing networks of relationships between objects, humans and places. Contrasting materials are used in new ways, making space for material agency and chance.

In a time of increasing dematerialisation and alienation from natural rhythms and shared ecosystems, O'Donnell explores artistic practice as a method of engendering moments of connection and affinty, revelation and wonder.

O'Donnell is a recipient of the 2019 Emerging Irish Artist Residency Award at the Burren College of Art. Exhibitions include; hinder/further, The Complex, Dublin, ROI (2022), CAOL AIT Cuid a Do, 126 Gallery, Galway, ROI (2020), CAOL AIT, Burren College of Art, Clare, ROI (2019), six seville, Dublin, ROI (2018), RESORT: A Popular Destination, Pallas Projects, Dublin, ROI (2014), PRESENTLY curated by Feargal O’Malley, Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown, NI (2014), TOMORROW’S ALMOST OVER curated by Gregory McCartney, VOID, Derry, NI (2013), The 9th Burren Annual curated by Maoliosa Boyle, Burren College of Art (2012) and SPECTRUM OF ACTIVITY curated by Padraic E.Moore, Black Mariah, Cork, ROI (2011).
