‘Shadow Dial Studies IIv; East facing, Snow Light Reversals’ silk scarf – Joan Alexander

Category: Accessories |

Description

The scarf has been produced in a limited edition and is 100% crepe de chine with hand rolled hemming, produced by Biddle Sawyer Silks. Joan Alexander’s work formed part of the exhibition Fast Slow Fast, which took place at CCA Derry~Londonderry 8 June – 10 August 2019. Joan shot photographs of her family home in Omagh on a snowy morning and brought the processed slides into the colour darkroom, before using them as negatives to produce a double positive or a reversal print. The idea behind this method was to explore the role of shadow as photographic negative. Joan uses photography, film and drawing to investigate time and finitude. The artist traces the movement of light over time in her shadow dial works. Through linear drawings and photography, Joan attempts to chart and solidify the ethereality of shadows as quiet markers of the passage of time. Joan created new shadow dial works at CCA as well as presenting Dust, a film capturing the passage of light through floating dust particles.
