Info

As part of our exhibition Magic Touch, CCA offers a set of screenings, that are available to view in our library. Further exploring the tension between technology and embodied experience, three films from the RTE series, Hands, are shown. Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, David and Sally Shaw-Smith captured the processes and products of Irish craftspeople, anticipating the demise of many traditional crafts. These films were produced as a counterpoint to the increasing pace, mechanization and inherent labour inequality embedded in modern consumer culture. The films document Donegal weavers, a Dublin bookbinder, and a shoemaker. They will be available to view in the CCA library.

Works kindly provided on loan from The Mellon Centre for Migration Studies Library.
