Miguel Amado

Miguel Amado is the curator of the Portuguese Pavilion at the 2013 Venice Biennial. He has been a curator for institutions such as Tate St Ives in St Ives, the Fundação PLMJ in Lisbon and the Centro de Artes Visuais in Coimbra, Portugal. Other curatorial positions include New York-based organisations such as Rhizome at the New Museum and the Abrons Arts Center. In New York he was also a resident at the International Studio & Curatorial Program. He has been a guest curator at institutions such as the Museu Colecção Berardo in Lisbon and apexart in New York and events such as Frieze Projects at Frieze Art Fair in London and No Soul for Sale – A Festival of Independents at the X Initiative in New York and at Tate Modern in London. He has also been a critic for magazines such as Artforum. He is an auditor at the PhD Curatorial/Knowledge at Goldsmiths, University of London, and a graduate of the MA Curating Contemporary Art at the Royal College of Art, also in London. Further education includes Night School at the New Museum in New York and the ICI Curatorial Intensive at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing. He is a board member of IKT.
