sometimes you never know what’s in someone’s heart is a collective performance that is part of a larger research project exploring the social and political and cultural context of the bashment, hip hop and dancehall scenes in Belfast in the early 2000s – using carnivalesque techniques of humour and subversion. It features a collaboration between DJ’s Bones, Liam Mc Cartan and Joey O’Gorman; producer Tony Haynes; musician John Macormac; artist Mitch Conlon and others. Presented at CCA will be a set of staged research performances centred on the legislation for the Noise Act of Northern Ireland (1996), the opening of the event space Studio 11 shortly after the Act’s introduction, contemporary bootleg Belfast Hip Hop fashion design and the recordings of Les Vikings De La Guadeloupe.
