Irish Modernisms: Design Workshops
Thursday 15 July 2021, 6pm–8pm, Book here *Fully Booked
Thursday 19 August 2021, 6pm–8pm, Book here *£22
Working alongside Laura in an online workshop, participants will learn how to create their own piece of type. They will layout and draw a Clarendon 'M' during the session. This typeface is used on the front of shops and high street businesses across Ireland and the UK. The font also fits into the Modernist era and is a central font for sign painters.
Participants will draw an M for Modernism and include imagery such as the Shamrock and Bridget's Cross found through the research of Co-Curator Matt Retallick. Participants will look at Irish holiday posters depicting maps and modes of transport in Ireland from modernist.ie. Laura will look at this in relation to our current day situation in keeping holiday plans confined to this island. There will be a discussion of the Clarendon alphabet and its significance within Irish Modernism and sign-painting.
This is an online event, suitable for ages 18 and over and will take place via Zoom. For further information please email [email protected]
