On Sunday 22 August 2021 from 10am, follow artist Ned Pooler as he takes over our Instagram and Twitter pages to share his work and research for CCA Introducing 2021. Ned has been nominated by CCA's Marketing Assistant Fiona Allan, who is curating the CCA Introducing 2021 programme.

Ned Pooler works between sculpture, painting and installation. Through the lens of early animation tropes, he reimagines architectural space, contemporary reality and psyche.

Beneath their surface of thickened outlines and clashing colours, Ned’s environments stretch the limits of both material and expectation, transforming building-site materials into 'cartoonified' matter. His sculptures hinge on cartoon motion in a play of dark humour and gesture and through the painting technique trompe- l’œil he establishes a new, wonky, anthropomorphic perspective.

Through this visual language Ned redefines space and form, tampering with both physical and metaphysical spaces. Reminiscent of Brechtian Epic Theatre, he works with the veiling of reality to create distance for viewers whilst they traverse his liminal terrains.

Born 1992 in Birmingham, Ned is currently based in Glasgow. His recent exhibitions include The Royal Scottish Academy (2021) and ‘Soft Rupture’ (2020); a solo exhibition as part of an extended residency with HOP Projects CT20, Folkestone, Kent. In his digital residency with CCADLD Ned will be researching deeper into the new body of work created during his recent solo show and the process of creating this work during the COVID-19 global pandemic.
