Join us in CCA on Saturday 15th October from 4pm to 6pm for the next booksvscigarettes reading group event, where we’ll be reading an excerpt from Donna Haraway’s Staying with the Trouble: Making Kin in the Chthulucene.

‘In the midst of spiraling ecological devastation, multispecies feminist theorist Donna J. Haraway offers provocative new ways to reconfigure our relations to the earth and all its inhabitants. She eschews referring to our current epoch as the Anthropocene, preferring to conceptualize it as what she calls the Chthulucene, as it more aptly and fully describes our epoch as one in which the human and nonhuman are inextricably linked in tentacular practices.’

The session on Saturday will focus on an excerpt from Chapter 2, ‘Tentacular Thinking: Anthropocene, Capitalocene, Chthulucene’, edited and circulated by e-flux journal. You can come along without having read the text in advance – we will be reading and discussing together. The reading group will be followed by the opening of Miguel Martin’s Put to the Sword and Benedict Drew’s The Saw Tooth Wave at 7pm.

The text can be found here or email CCA for a copy on info@cca-derry-londonderry.org.

This event is free and open to the public but please email info@cca-derry-londonderry.org to let us know you’re coming.

booksvscigarettes is CCA’s intermittent reading group. It takes its name from George Orwell’s essay which assessed the price and value of reading against other pursuits.
