Description
You are invited to CCA Derry~Londonderry on Saturday 28 January, 2022, 1pm–3pm, to add your own hand-stitching to the Energy Quilt, a new piece by URGENCIES (2023) artist and designer-maker Sarah Diver Lang. The Energy Quilt will be displayed as part of the URGENCIES (2023) exhibition at CCA until 18 March 2023.

Sarah states that this quilt is a commentary on energy. Although it is made using hand block printing techniques and natural dyes, it has however, taken resource and power to make an object for warmth in the future. The energy crisis we face is complex, there are both long term and urgent issues to solve. It is not only about the extremely unaffordable energy prices which will force many into heat poverty, but our unsustainable use of fossil fuels.

Sarah would like to invite you to add to this quilt through hand-stitching, putting your own time and energy into its fabrication. Working alongside Sarah you will sit round the quilt and add your own mark to its surface. Sarah will use this time with you to talk together about your own thoughts on the energy crisis. Discussing how do we anticipate energy will be used in the future and what does warmth mean to us?
